On Saturday 1st July Jacob, a 10 year old Cub from 1st Goosnargh Scout Group, completed a 100km cycle ride (three laps of Preston’s Guild Wheel) to raise money for two good causes. Some of the money raised will go towards supporting Jacob’s participation at the International Cub Camp in Zellhof, Austria with West Lancashire Cubs in August 2023. The remainder will go towards the enormous project of rebuilding Goosnargh’s Scout Hut. After having to close their old premises in 2021, the Group are looking to raise funds to secure a permanent new home for the Group.
On the day the weather was kind and Jacob, supported on all three laps by his Mum, Lynley, completed two laps before lunchtime and then was joined on the final lap by fellow Cubs and friends Alistair, Oscar, Harry, Oscar and several parents. We even managed to get our Treasurer and Group Scout Leader out on the ride! We are so proud of Jacob, who has been training hard for the past six months to make sure he could complete the challenge safely, and of all of the Cubs who joined him for the final lap. Even one lap is a challenging 21 miles, so well done to everyone involved!
