William Fazackerley was a dedicated and long serving Scout Leader within Preston district and on his death he left the bulk of his estate to Scouting with roughly half of his legacy going to Waddecar and the other half going into a trust set up to benefit and support scouting in Preston. The money left to Waddecar was put towards increasing the size of the campsite by buying adjacent land the result is Bill’s Meadow. The Trust set up to support Scouting in Preston, is a Charity Registered with the Charity Commission with the Charity number 1012228 and with three aims:
- The increase of Scouts’ knowledge and understanding of the Policy, Organisation and rules of the Scout Association
- The funding of grants to support Scouts further their education and advancement within the Scout movement.
- The provision of financial assistance to Scouts who are disadvantaged.
Over the years the trust has funded a wide range of projects from the development of headquarters, support to groups to purchase equipment from tents to minibuses, support to leader training costs and assisting young people in attending activities and provision of ‘basic equipment.
The provision of grants from the trust is based on the information provided on the form and is the decision of the trustees and a committee of experienced Scouters from the District.
